Five on Friday 26 May 2016 Edition

We went camping over the Victoria Day long weekend at my brothers' cabin with one of my brothers and his family making it a short work/school week. Our first night of tenting in 2016 and it was lovely. The black flies were definitely biting but not all the time so we managed quite well. I will write more about the weekend once my UK trip diary is exhausted but I will tell you that the boys had fishing on the brain!

This one was too small and went back into the pond.
I continue on with my sock. Have I whined enough about it yet? There is an end in sight. I think I'll enjoy knitting sock number two. I hope I'll enjoy knitting sock number two.

Middlest brought a ladybug in for a photograph this week. I love those little hands that are growing too fast. I like to capture these little moments especially for DH who, naturally, left for work travel almost as soon as I got back from the UK.

Youngest is into dinkies this week. I love the colours!

And on Thursday, myself and three boys went for a walk down the East Coast trail across from our house. It was grey and overcast but still a lovely, albeit cold 6 degree hike (after 23 degrees the day before!!!). Here is a glimpse into the scenery. Gorgeous, eh? The walk was followed up by Middlest accidentally breaking our house key off in the lock, me swearing a lot, going to a neighbours to use their phone and call my SIL to see if she was home and driving into St. John's to get our extra house key. An hour wasted and one which threw me off my schedule quite a bit. That's life though I guess.

I am sharing this post with Amy over at Love Made My Home again. What a lovely link party! Do check out the other bloggers posts when you have the chance. It's nice to read something new!

  1. I love the photo of where you walked, in spite of the stress it ended up having. I hope the second sock goes well--it should be easier?

    1. Glad you liked the picture! We are so lucky to be so close to such a pretty trail system. I'm hoping the second sock is easier too!

  2. Sounds like a great camping trip. The black flies were out pretty strong when we went on our mini-trip this last week. The air was quite thick with them up by the lighthouses but I have seen them worse.

Love the picture of your little one holding the ladybird. Kids grow up so quickly. It just seems like yesterday...sigh...

    Have a great weekend

  3. Sounds like a wonderful camping trip, despite the flies. Always lovely to capture little moments on camera to treasure and recall, they grow up so quickly.

  4. First camping trip of the year was always my favorite, it wasn't quite as much fun after that. Did you have to replace the lock?

    1. We tend to camp (tenting) throughout the summer though it was so cold last summer it wasn't much fun. I have high hopes for this coming summer. I didn't have to replace the lock, thankfully, just drove to my brother's to fetch a spare. Luckily I had my van keys on the same ring as the house key!

  5. Five lovely things, the camping trip sounds like fun and love the capturing of the ladybug and the little hands. I was just about to ask if you had to replace the lock but see from your reply above that all was well in the end:)

  6. What a beautiful rocky coast to walk along. Camping is a lot of fun, black flies not so much. Sorry about the broken key - glad there was a spare not too far away. Ladybugs are so much fun for big and little girls alike.

    1. We do get black flies and mosquitos when we're camping but are lucky enough at home to be close enough to the coast for a coastal breeze most times. I love ladybugs too!

  7. Our weather has been flip flopping like that, too. 80°F one day, today we have a fire burning to take the cold chill out of the house. We haven't been to camp yet this year but maybe tomorrow for the day, depending on the weather. Thanks for stopping in at my place!

    1. I guess misery loves company because it's nice to know we're not the only ones with rapid weather changes! Yesterday was three degrees and today feels balmy at eight degrees C and sunny! Hope you got out for a day of camping. I'll drop by your place shortly and see;)!

  8. Glad you had a good camping experience. Oh boy...too bad about that key breaking in the lock. Glad you had someone to come to the rescue. Your rocky coastal walk looks so moody and dramatic. Nice view. We are having our long weekend now. Have a good week. I'll need to poke about your UK posts now. My favorite place to visit.

    1. Thanks for stopping by! Yes, it was great that someone was home with an extra key to save us. These things always seem to happen when my DH is away. We are lucky to live right on the coast and moody and dramatic describes it perfectly. I love visiting the UK too! I'll be drooling by your blog shortly!

  9. Hi Patty, Nice to meet you!
Sounds like you had a great time at camp. I used to camp with my parents and siblings when I was a child, but don't camp now. Sort of miss some of it! Not the bug bites though!
Good luck with your socks. I keep starting knitting, but have trouble finishing things!
Glad you were able to get a spare key, but what a nuisance for you!
I'll be back to read about your UK trip.
Thank you for visiting my blog, and Izzy says Hi!

I'm hoping to knit three pairs this year so I really have to give myself a kick. I'll drop by your place shortly. It's so lovely to meet new friends!

  10. It is a common thing to get second sock syndrome, I'll keep my fingers crossed that you finished it up quickly and then enjoy the wearing of them. you live in a beautiful part of the UK

    1. Yes, I am really trying to avoid second sock syndrome. Almost finished that sock. Hopefully this weekend if I get a bit of 'free' time when I can concentrate on grafting the toe. I actually live in Canada in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) though much of my content over the past couple of weeks has concentrated on my recent visit to the UK. Thanks for stopping by!
